Transforming a Historic School into a Modern Hotel
HotelKeizerstraat in Scheveningen is a compelling example of adaptive reuse, where a historic school building has been transformed into a contemporary hotel. Our approach focused on preserving the building’s original character while adapting it to modern hospitality needs.
Enhancing Space and Light
To breathe new life into the vacant building, we implemented several strategic changes:
· FloorLevel Adjustments: Reconfigured floor levels to maximize usable space and enhance hotel functionality.
· ImprovedRouting: Optimized circulation within the building for better guest flow andaccess.
· Attic activation: Introduced additional windows to bring natural light into the attic, creating a more inviting and functional space.
Minimal Exterior Changes
The exterior modifications were minimal, mainly affecting the inner gardenarea, to maintain the building’s historic charm. In contrast, the interiorunderwent a complete renovation, stripping down to the essentials andrebuilding to accommodate the hotel’s requirements.
The result is a seamless blend of the building's distinctive old-world façade with a modern, efficient interior. The hotel now features a range of rooms with playful designs and varying sizes, catering to diverse guest needs.
