Analysis of Massive Timber Construction

Syntrus Achmea Real Estate and Finance has commissioned Urban Climate Architects to conduct a study on building with massive timber structures as a sustainable alternative to traditional construction methods using concrete and steel. The goal is to develop an eco-friendly investment product that contributes to CO2 reduction.

This document provides an overview of the various aspects involved in building with massive timber. It also compares timber construction to traditional methods,highlighting the differences in design processes, on-site practices, team composition, and key technical considerations. Additionally, the study explores the impact of massive timber structures on construction costs, timelines, and environmental effects.

While there is a wide range of massive timber elements available, this study focuses primarily on the most commonly used types in modern timber construction: CLT(Cross-Laminated Timber) and Glulam (Glued Laminated Timber).
