Transformation with CLT and sustainable architecture in Rotterdam-Kralingen

A special residential building will soon be built on a prominent corner in Kralingen in Rotterdam. The location at the intersection of Oudedijk and Waterloostraat, unused for years since the construction of the metro, is getting a new destination. The transformation is designed with an innovative CLT structure of four floors with four spacious apartments. This sustainable project forms a new urban anchor point and is in line with the character of the protected cityscape.

Sustainable living with CLT

The choice for CLT (cross-laminated wood) is at the heart of this project. The material is light, strong and environmentally friendly. CLT not only reduces CO₂ emissions, but also contributes to a healthy living environment thanks to the natural indoor climate. This form of sustainable architecture emphasises the balance between ecology and urban quality.

Architecture with respect for the historical context

The building will have a warm brick façade that matches the surrounding buildings, combined with sophisticated contemporary details. The top floor has been laid back and made lighter, so that the view of the monumental Hoflaan Church is preserved. This creates a harmony between modern architecture and the historic streetscape.

Transforming an urban void
