At Urban Climate Architects, we are proud of the transformation from a former school building to a warm, sustainable and accessible care building for WoonParadij B.V. This special project shows how an outdated school building can be transformed into a safe and homely residential care location for people with an intellectual disability.

From School Building to Care Building: A Careful Transformation

The design aims to maintain the original character of the building, while at the same time meeting the modern requirements of a residential care environment. The redevelopment created a care building with comfortable individual apartments, studios and inviting communal areas — perfect for residents who need guidance and social interaction.

Smart Layout for Optimal Residential Care

The layout of the care building was created in close cooperation with WoonParadij B.V. This explicitly looked at privacy, accessibility and safety. The spaces are tailored to different care needs, with attention to rest, guidance and independence in a warm and secure environment.

Sustainable Transformation with CLT and Innovative Materials

This project states sustainability central. By using Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT), energy-efficient techniques and circular materials, the care building is not only functional, but also environmentally friendly and future-proof. This is in line with Urban Climate Architects' vision to link social projects to sustainable architecture.
