Circular resource recovery hub
Urban Climate Architects is designing the main building for the new circular resource recovery hub ABS in Lansingerland, commissioned by the Gemeente Lansingerland. This project is not just about waste disposal but focuses on resource recovery within a circular economy. The two-storybuilding is constructed from biobased and recycled materials. The upper floorwill house offices for site management, while the ground floor features a cafeteria and a large multifunctional space for workshops, lectures, and community events such as a repair café. Modulo Milieustraten is handling the remainder of the site development.
Streamlined and flexible timber design
The main building is constructed entirely from solid wood, aiming for maximum flexibility and sleekness. The CLT (Cross-LaminatedTimber) floors are supported by laminated wooden columns, connected to the floors using a smart spider connection system that eliminates the need forbeams. This approach maximizes floor height and ensures unobstructed views and transparency in the facades. Local CLT wall elements provide structural stability.
Recycled materials
Adhering to the principle of 'practice what you preach,' the facades of the Grondstoffen Inzamelstation will be clad in recycled materials, specifically reclaimed paving stones arranged in various masonry patterns. These stones are collected locally within the municipality. We are also exploring additional reusable elements for interior finishes and fittings.
A visible example of sustainability
Beyond its functional role, the main building servesas a visible demonstration of sustainability. Its transparent, circular design reflects both Urban Climate Architects’ and Gemeente Lansingerland’s commitment to sustainability, showcasing how material cycles can be effectively implemented in practice.
