The legacy of sixties’ architecture is one ofhard buildings, brutalist designs made with the efficiency of machines. Thisexample is no exception; it is a concrete temple of a previous era. Transformingthis building means deliberately bringing it out of balance. We concentratedour transformation around the entrance area, introducing a lot of steel tobring the balance back. For the rest, we preserved its original form. We gaveit a new facade, but it remains the machine it always used to be.
Innovative Transformation
Our approach to this transformation was torespect the building's historical essence while enhancing its functionality andaesthetic appeal. The use of steel around the entrance area not only modernizesthe look but also creates a striking contrast with the original brutalistdesign. This deliberate juxtaposition breathes new life into the structure, making it a compelling blend of old and new.
Sustainable and Functional Design
The revamped retail center now features a mix ofretail and fitness facilities, catering to a diverse range of visitors. Asignificant focus on sustainability is evident through the addition of a greenroof, contributing to a healthier inner climate. This project showcases ourcommitment to design with green principles, reuse, and adding value throughthoughtful transformation. We gave her anice dress, but she remains the machine she always used to be.
