Transformation from Office Building to Housing with Vertical Extension
At a prominent location in Leiden, Urban Climate Architects has designed a striking redevelopment project. An office building is being transformed into approximately 415 apartments, catering to a diverse group including starters, singles, families, and seniors, helping to meet Leiden's growing housing needs.
The project is highly circular, with the building nearly doubling in size. Through innovative engineering, we’ve extended the existing structure by 11,000 m² while preserving its original quality.
The existing office building will be expanded with threelayers (topping up). The form of topping up is determined by sunlight, in order to maximize natural daylight in the inner area. Reusing existing structure, new facade in prefab elements (circular) and energetically optimal.
