De Kiem, a new residential neighborhood in Pijnacker, is being developed by JansenDeJong and Revolve Development. This project offers a variety of housing types set within a natural environment, bridging the urban area and the surrounding landscape. Approximately 40% of the area is dedicated to greenery and water, emphasizing biodiversity.

Harmonious Design in a Natural Setting

Urban Climate Architects has designed the final piece of this district, ensuring the new residential building blends seamlessly with its green surroundings. Designed as an open and inviting pavilion, the building features staggered outdoor spaces that enhance its connection to the environment. The facade, made from natural materials, contrasts with the predominantly brick architecture of the other buildings.

Sustainable Living

The five-story structure boasts an all-wood Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT) design, with the natural beauty of the wood prominently displayed throughout the apartments. This not only provides a healthy and positive living environment but also underscores the project's commitment to sustainability.

Community and Biodiversity

The ground level integrates seamlessly with the landscape, incorporating greenery and providing habitats for local flora and fauna, including nesting boxes, bee hotels, and native plantings along the facades.

Diverse Housing Options

The building will house 29 apartments, ranging from 65m² to 110m², catering to a diverse range of residents. This project highlights how thoughtful design and sustainable practices can create a harmonious living space within a natural setting.
